Anugrah Narayan Medical College (ANMC) principal Sohan Prasad Chaudhary ordered MBBS students to vacate the hostel within 24 hours after talks to restore health services, at least in the emergency ward of Anugrah Narayan Medical College and Hospital (ANMCH), failed on Thursday.

However, interns have been allowed to stay in the hostel. The college has also been closed indefinitely.

Earlier on Thursday, following the direction of Gaya district magistrate Balamurugan D, deputy development commissioner Vijay Kumar arrived at the ANMCH campus and tried to resolve the matter by talking to the students in the presence of the principal, ANMCH superintendent Sudhir Kumar Sinha, heads of departments (HoDs) of different departments, deputy superintendent of police (law and order) Satish Kumar and other officials.

However, interference of an intern irked a couple of HoDs, who said that it was the matter of medics and not of interns, who should not be present there. Following this, the medics walked out without any solution.

Of 50 students of the MBBS pre-final, 22 failed while 13 of 49 students of MBBS final exam also failed. Now, the medics who failed are demanding to get them passed and in support of their demand have locked the emergency ward since 3pm on Tuesday besides offices of principal and superintendent since late Monday evening. No patient has been attended at the outpatient department (OPD) of the hospital since Tuesday. On April 3 also, the students had ransacked the medical college and hospital in support of their demand. An FIR was also lodged with Magadh Medical College police station against at least 50 unknown medics. However, no one has been identified so far.

Due to closure of the hospital, patients are not coming to the ANMCH. In case some patients turn up are referred to other hospitals. Nine boys aged between 12 and 18 years who suffered burns injuries when the vehicle they were travelling came into contact with a live high tension electric wire were admitted to Jayaprakash Narayan (JPN) Hospital on Thursday.

The incident took place near Naili when the youths on a pick-up van were going to Boknari in Paraiya block of Gaya district after second marriage of one Pappu Yadav of the same village. A 14-year old youth Lalu who has suffered severe burns has been referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital.

Bare Paswan (18), Sunil Kumar (16), Manish Kumar and Santosh Kumar (14), Pradyuman Kumar (13), Nitish Kumar, Subodh Kumar and Vikas Kumar (12) are other injured admitted to JPN Hospital.
