Patna police have accepted that murders because of personal enmity remain a problem for the state capital.

The statement from the police comes after Patna witnessed at least six murders in the past one week.

"Cases of personal enmity which lead to murders are hard to control without the police getting prior information about it. We cannot remain present in every corner of the capital all the time. But we are trying to prevent crime and detect criminal incidents without delays," deputy inspector-general of police (central range) Shalin said.

On September 8, a youth was shot dead in Mokama after a road rage. The same morning police had recovered the bullet-riddled bodies of two youths from Naubatpur.

On September 9, Afzal Ali, a reputable city-based doctor, was murdered in Digha. On September 10, a 20-year-old boy, Akash Dey, was shot at metres from his home on Bhoothnath Road. Late on September 12, businessman Ramchandra Jha was shot dead in the busy Beur area.

Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manu Maharaaj said most of the cases have been solved.

"In connection with the Naubatpur double murder, we have arrested Ravi Ranjan Sharma, a resident of Naubatpur, who, along with his associates had killed the duo. There was enmity between them for more than five years and this led to the murder of the two youths, who had criminal antecedents. In connection with Monday's murder of businessman Ramchandra Jha, one person has been arrested, while four are absconding. Again, it was business-related enmity. The main accused in this case, identified as Bittu, is absconding. We have solved the murder of the doctor and the accused is behind bars. The Mokama murder is yet to be solved as all the accused are absconding and efforts are on to nab them," the officer said.

Sources said in connection with the shooting on the Bhoothnath Road, the cops had nabbed Bilal, a shooter residing in Patna City area. "The case is almost solved. The victim is undergoing treatment at PMCH and one person has been arrested," a police officer said.

The cops said all the police stations have been asked to step up patrolling. "The SHOs have been asked to prepare a list of biker gangs active in their jurisdictions and send it to the headquarters without delay so that a strategy could be chalked out," Maharaaj said.

If one looks at the incidents, which have occurred in the past few days, detections have been fast. The SHOs of all the police stations have been asked to act without delay and focus on scientific investigations, which result in quicker detections. The Patna police have improved when it comes to infrastructure and there are more than 150 CCTV cameras in different parts of Patna. The first reaction of the police is to look for the CCTV footage of any incident, which leads to quicker identification of the accused.

In connection with the murder of the businessman in Beur, the SSP has suspended the SHO after it was found that the cop didn't respond to the victim family's clarion call for help in a proper way.
