Pooja Ann's family spent the weekend at home in Patna City preparing for Easter - she ensured everything was in place and her mom-in-law, Pushpa Patrick, spent her time dishing out delicacies.

The family was among revellers across the city who celebrated the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Sunday. The devout started the day with the morning prayer service and then went on to make arrangements for evening get-togethers with family and friends. Easter eggs were prepared and tasty dishes made to mark the festival.

"My mother-in-law specifically asked me to take care of the party as she was attending to the food," said Pooja. "She made macaroni and chicken curry for the guests. She marinated the chicken in garlic paste, ginger paste, salt and wine and later added the macaroni, butter and cheeses to complete the bake."

Pooja and her husband Abhishek Patrick decided to keep the celebration traditional by preparing the Easter eggs at home. The family prepared 12 of the eggs, symbolising the 12 months in a year.

"Easter eggs are important in this celebration because cracking of the eggshell symbolises the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Easter eggs are mainly made for children. Before the party, we will hide the eggs in the living room area and the kids would have to hunt for them," Pooja said.

The family prepared an inedible dough in the shape of an egg and stuffed it with treats such as chocolates and candies.

Don Bosco Academy principal Mary Alphonsa also had an Easter do at home but bought her Easter eggs from the market. Hers was a chocolate-filled "egg" with marzipans. "It saves time," she said. "Christian families usually prepare non-vegetarian dishes for the celebration because during Lent we abstain from it."
