Patna, July 19: Government school students from eight different districts today deftly wove elements of science in the storylines of their plays on water conservation, ill-effects of globalisation on biodiversity and various other topics.

Students of classes IX and X were performing in the state-level science play competition at Shrikrishna Science Centre organised jointly by State Council Educational Research and Training (SCERT) and Shrikrishna Science Centre. The students who acted today faced block and district-level competitions initially.

The participating schools included DVM Uchcha Vidyalaya, Pariyojana Balika Vidyalaya, Inter School Bahadurpur, Town High School, Mahendra High School-cum-Inter College, Ramnandan Mishra Government Girls School, Sri Baliram High School and Rajkiya Kanya Uchcha Vidyalaya, Shastrinagar.

Students put their souls in characterising the plays, while an illusion of nature was recreated on the stage in one play. Rajkiya Kanya Uchcha Vidyalaya students staged a play on the theme of ill-effects of globalisa- tion on biodiversity by wrapping themselves with tree branches.

They also showed the source of water by waving white curtains. Among the other attempts to create illusions, they wore masks of animals and acted like them. They used a red curtain to create an illusion of fire.

Students of Mahendra High School-cum-Inter College of Siwan portrayed the theme of water conservation in their play.

The play transported the audience to a village where everybody was misusing water.

The students showed how life could be ruined in absence of water. Lives of humans, animals and trees were shown devastated at the end of play.

Anurag Kumar, the project co-ordinator of Shrikrishna Science Centre, said: “Before this state-level competition, block-level competitions were held in June. The winners of today will take part in the zonal-level competitions in Calcutta on July 29 before a national-level contest at Delhi in August.”
