Gopalganj, Jan. 4: A youth raped an 11-year-old girl near Thawe railway station after pulling her out of a Siwan-bound train around 9.30pm yesterday.
The victim lodged an FIR around 4am at the Thawe government railway police (GRP) today. Yesterday morning, the girl had come to visit her grandfather, Sugga Ram, who runs a tea shop near the station, around 180km northwest of the state capital.
According to the FIR, the victim, a resident of Gopalganj, left her grandfather’s place around 9pm yesterday. She and her seven-year-old sister also took food with them for their ailing father. Both of them boarded the 55114 Thawe-Siwan Passenger. However, before the train could depart, the accused, Niraj Manjhi (24), dragged her out, took her to a nearby field and raped her. He then took the girl to an abandoned house, tied her hands and raped her again.
The victim said the rapist was in an inebriated condition and forced her to drink and also smoke a cigarette. Around 3 in the morning, Niraj asked the girl to leave. When the victim told him she was unable to do so, he took her to the railway station and fled.
The girl then went to the GRP station and narrated the incident. GRP in-charge S.N. Singh said the girl was sent to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital for medical examination today.
Dr Usha Kiran, who conducted tests on the girl, confirmed rape. According to Singh, the victim said she could identify the accused. Singh said raids are being conducted to nab Niraj, who is a resident of the area.
