Motihari, Aug. 26: Amrita Jaiswal approached a Motihari court to seek justice in an alleged case of dowry demand. A native of Ghorasahan Bazaar in the district, she was married to one Vijay Jaiswal, a resident of 532, Diamond Harbour Road, Behala, in Calcutta on February 8, 2006.
Apart from complaint case vide number C-1030/2010, Amrita has also filed a maintenance case under Section 125 of the Criminal Procedure Code, which is pending in the district family court.
A graduate in library sciences, Amrita, in her complaint case filed before the chief judicial magistrate on December 6, 2010, had charged her father-in-law and uncle-in-law with fraud, as they had concealed the fact about her husband being a chronic diabetic for several years before the marriage.
After Amrita got married, she found her husband taking insulin injections thrice daily. In her complaint, she said her in-laws started torturing her and demanded dowry when she accused them of ignoring her husband and sought the best treatment for him.
She said the accused started assaulting her when she refused to ask her brother to provide Rs 2 lakh for purchasing a car for the Jaiswal family. She added that her mother-in-law and sister-in-law used to lock her up without food for days.
