Bettiah police have launched a hunt for two teenaged boys suspected to be involved in the murder of gangster Babloo Dubey in the Bettiah civil court complex on Thursday.
A police officer, who is part of the special investigation team formed to probe Babloo's murder, said on Friday that two minor boys were spotted moving around Dubey while he was climbing down the staircase after deposition in court in connection with the murder of a panchayat head.
Bettiah superintendent of police Vinay Kumar said police have got vital clues in the case. "We are working on the leads in the case," he said, adding that the case would be solved at the earliest. A forensic team visited the spot and gathered evidence.
Sources in the police didn't rule out involvement of Babloo's rival groups in the killing.
"A police team is likely to visit Motihari to quiz a few suspects, whose role has been under the police scanner since the incident took place," said an investigating official.
Deputy inspector-general of Champaran range Anil Kumar Singh visited Bettiah on Friday and issued some necessary instructions to the superintendent of police concerned and officers assigned to investigate the case. "The police have taken the case as a challenge," Singh told reporters after the review meeting.
The mortal remains of Babloo, who was facing multiple charges of kidnapping for ransom, murder and extortion, were cremated in his native village Siswa-Patna in East Champaran district under tight security.
BJP MLA Sachindra Prasad Singh also took part in the funeral.
Traders of East Champaran, West Champaran, Sheohar, Gopalganj and parts of Muzaffarpur districts in north Bihar have heaved a sigh of relief after the murder of Babloo who used to operate from behind the bars.
Sources said Babloo used to issue threats to businessmen from jail. Around 25 traders from those districts had received threats for failing to pay extortion money to the ganglord.
"We were living in constant fear. Hardly a day passed without any threat call from the jail," said a businessman of Bettiah.
