Patna, Jan. 25: Junior Doctors’ Association (JDA) of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) today threatened to withdraw clinical services at medical colleges across the state from Sunday if their demands for senior residency scheme and stipend revision of junior residents were not met with.
The decision to suspend clinical services was taken in a meeting of JDA at PMCH. Representatives of several government-run medical colleges took part in it.
The suspension of work by junior medics would virtually mean collapse of treatment facilities at PMCH, as they are the main workforce at the facility.
The postgraduate medical students said they had no other option than stalling the services completely as the state government was apathetic towards their long-pending demands.
The association members met health department principal secretary Amarjeet Sinha yesterday and submitted their list of demands.
Sinha said the government was looking into the list of demands of junior doctors. “We are considering all the points the medics have raised,” he said.
A JDA member said: “At present, no new postgraduate medical student can enter into teaching line in the state.”
The association demanded appointment of senior residents and assistant professors through competitive exams.
“In the past several years very few senior residents have been appointed, and that too on contract. We are demanding that an annual calendar be prepared for recruitment of senior residents,” the member added.
