Patna: JDU MLC and party spokesperson Neeraj Kumar on Monday wrote an open letter to Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, seeking an explanation from them on their support to the RJD, whose leaders are chargesheeted and accused in the fodder scam case.
Neeraj asked how the Congress justifies its association with a person who has been debarred from contesting elections. He also asked if it was necessary to be an accused in a corruption case to be secular and to fight for social justice. "Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kejriwal and the Trinamul leader attended a dharna in New Delhi organised by Tejashwi Prasad, the son of fodder scam accused Lalu Prasad," Neeraj wrote in the letter. "The big question in today's politics is as to how they can justify their association with people like Lalu and Tejashwi, one accused in the fodder scam and the other chargesheeted.
The Telegraph is in possession of a copy of the three-page letter, written in Hindi, and issued on Monday morning on the lawmaker's official letterhead. Neeraj pointed out that there should not be any compromise with corruption under any circumstances.
The MLC stressed that women are not safe under the RJD. Its MLA is an accused in a rape case while Tejashwi's private assistant, Mani Yadav, was chargesheeted in a case under the Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act.
He urged the Congress, Trinamul and AAP not to give any protection to the RJD just to appear secular and fighting for social justice. He asked Rahul to think again before allying with the RJD. "Rahul should understand that his surname symbolises sacrifice, empathy and harmony and he should think on his alliance with the RJD," Neeraj said.
The MLC also suggested that Rahul give up his surname because of his alliance with the RJD.
Reacting to the JDU's charges, Congress MLC Prem Chand Mishra called Neeraj's letter a fake and said the Congress alliance was based on an ideology and not on any individual. "Our alliance is not with any individual," MLC Prem Chand said. "Rather, it is based on the ideology of secularism. But the JDU will not understand this. A party that has disowned and cheated the people's mandate should not give lecture to others. The JDU should first tell the people of Bihar that they had an alliance with the RJD led by Lalu ji in the 2015 elections and why these issues were not raised at that time. Laluji is convicted since 2013. Today he is writing a letter. Why did he not say anything at that time? What is the use of this fake letter? "
