Chhapra, Aug. 23: Majhi police station in-charge Kapurnath Sharma has been suspended for the alleged rape of a 19-year-old on the police station premises in the district, about 70km from Patna.
The medical board, which had been constituted to probe the allegation of rape on the unmarried woman from Birbal Natwar village today gave its report suggesting “bruises” on the victim’s private parts though it said the “lady was accustomed to intercourse”.
Deputy inspector-general, Saran range, Sunil Kumar said: “The officer in-charge in question has been suspended. It was an offence to keep a woman in custody without female constables around. The case is being investigated.”
The woman has alleged that she was brought to the police station concerned from Chhapra jail on remand on August 18. The police took her on remand to interrogate her in connection with a murder case she stands implicated in.
The woman in her statement to the prison superintendent said: “The policemen drugged me on the intervening night of August 18 and 19 and perpetrated gangrape on me.”
She re-iterated her allegations to the additional-district magistrate Chhapra, Tarini Das, district civil surgeon A.N. Jha and other officials who met her on the instruction of the district magistrate, Vinay Kumar.
The victim has also stated to the authorities concerned that the policemen had given her tea laced with sedatives. “I fell unconscious after drinking the tea. Subsequently, the policemen raped me one by one,” she said.
The statements are a part of the FIR she has filed with the permission and assistance of the prison administration.
The district magistrate constituted a five-member medical board headed by Dr Shambhunath Singh that also included two lady doctors, Dr Kiran Ojha and Dr Nila Singh. The report that the medical team submitted to the district magistrate and court concerned today read: “There are bruises on the private parts of her body. The possibility of rape cannot be ruled out but the lady was accustomed to intercourse. She had been examined in the jail on August 15, which suggested that she was used to intercourse.”
She is in the judicial custody in connection with the murder of a 15-year-old boy named Dipak.
The woman in connection with her alleged involvement in Dipak’s murder had stated that Dipak had tried to rape her in her Birbal Natwar village. “I forcefully squeezed his testicles to avoid the outrage on my modesty following which Dipak died.”
The incident had taken place on August 12.
Dipak’s father named one Chandan, a co-villager, along with the woman, in the FIR that he lodged in connection with his son’s death.
The DIG said: “The police had arrested both Chandan and the woman. It appears to be a case of love triangle. But we are investigating the case. It is difficult to tell anything conclusive at this stage.”
