Patna, Feb. 10: Bihar Council of Medical Registration (BCMR) has invited suggestion from civil surgeons, principals of medical colleges, members of Bihar Health Medical Association and Indian Medical Association to lay down a new registration policy.

This comes following medics’ strong protests of a recent government notification to make registration of doctors mandatory every five years.

The BCMR has also asked senior private practitioners in Bihar to lay down the new policies. BCMR registrar Sehjanand Prasad Singh said letters had been issued to all senior medical professionals in the government and private sectors seeking their feedback so that a consensus over registration policy can be built.

“Medical Council of India had recommended 10 years ago that renewal of doctors’ registration should be made mandatory every five years following which various states adopted the policy one by one,” Singh said.

A notification issued by the health department makes it mandatory for all doctors to get their registration renewed with BMRC every five years by paying a fee of Rs 500.
