RJD chief Lalu Prasad and JDU national president Sharad Yadav held a closed-door meeting at the state guesthouse on Sunday but both remained tight-lipped about its details.

Lalu refused to speak anything about the meeting, gesturing to reporters to speak to Sharad. The JDU national president, too, gave nothing away. "We keep on meeting in Delhi and Patna," Sharad said. He, however, conceded that the talks revolved around the alliance. "Right now, our concentration is on the Council polls. Nitish ji and Laluji will sit together later to discuss the alliance," he said.

Sources in the RJD hinted that Lalu wanted to resolve the seat-sharing issue as soon as possible. When Lalu finally conceded to the demand of Nitish Kumar being the alliance's chief ministerial face in Delhi, it was announced that a committee comprising three members from both the parties would sit down and thrash out the complex issue of seat-sharing. However, till date, the committees are yet to be announced.

"Without knowing who the candidate would be, it is impossible to campaign. Apart from the heat over seat-sharing already being felt, there are demands for tickets from all across. We do not know what seats we would get," said a senior RJD leader.

After meeting Sharad, Lalu went to Chhapra to drum up support for the JDU candidate in the state Legislative Council polls, Salim Parwez.
