Patna, June 25: Police have banned pressure horns in the state capital from today but forgot to keep the residents in the loop. Also, despite the claim of the cops that its use was common, no one was caught in the entire day.
An order in this connection was sent to all the station house officers and the circle officers last Saturday, Patna City superintendent of police Shivdeep Lande told The Telegraph today.
“Pressure horns are very common in the city. Youths, who drive SUVs, frequently use such horns. These are very irritating and lead to mishaps as well. All the police stations in the state capital have been alerted to nab drivers using these horns. Pressure horns have been banned in the city,” the officer said.
But contrary to his claim, cops “found” nobody using the horn.
Residents welcomed the move to ban the pressure horns, though. “The use of such horns is a common menace. This is a good move,” said Sujit Prakash, a resident of Kankerbagh.
The police said those caught using these horns would be penalised according to Motor Vehicles Act. Under Section 190 of the act, the fine stands at Rs 1,000.
The new rule, however, comes with a poser.
A senior police officer said: “We do not have equipment like ecometer to check sound levels. But pressure horns can be identified easily.”
