A 20-year-old girl, who went missing from the Buddha Colony area of the state capital last week, was found in a “semi-conscious state” on Tuesday night in Ranchi.
A resident of Hajipur in Vaishali district, she was missing since Saturday. Her family had lodged a case with the Buddha Colony police station on Monday.
The girl was a student of a private coaching centre. She used to stay in a private hostel at Buddha Colony.
Police on Wednesday said the girl was found at Pahari Mandir under Sukhdeo Nagar police station in the Jharkhand capital. Deputy superintendent of police (law and order) Lalit Sharma told The Telegraph that a police officer had been sent to Ranchi along with the girl’s family.
“Her family had lodged a missing diary with the Buddha Colony police station on Monday. We received information that the girl has been found near a Shiv temple situated at the Pahari Mandir in the Sukhdeo Nagar area of Ranchi. The officials of the temple management, who found her, said she was in a semi-conscious state,” he said.
“The officials of the temple got in touch with the police there. The girl gave the Jharkhand cops the contacts of her parents, following which she was taken to the Ranchi sadar hospital. At present, she is in the hospital and the police are yet to record her statement,” the officer added.
The girl’s brother claimed that she was being allegedly blackmailed by two persons — Rahul and Saajan.
“On March 11, she returned to the hostel on Boring Canal Road from our home. Two days later, she called up and asked us to come to Patna at the earliest and meet her at a hotel near Veena Cinema under the Kotwali police station area. When I went there, she told me that two persons were harassing her. One of them wanted to marry my sister. The two men told her they had some pictures and video clippings of her. If she does not budge to their demand, the duo would make them public,” the girl’s brother said.
“I told her to come with me, but she refused. She said she needed to get back the pictures and the video clips from the two boys. Later that day, Saajan came to meet my sister. She told me that she would have to go with him. Saajan said he would ensure that she reaches home safely. I had no choice but to leave. Since then, her cellphone was switched off and we could not contact her. On Monday, we lodged the missing complaint and named the two men,” he added.
The girl’s brother said he had a talk with her on Wednesday.
“She asked us to go to Ranchi immediately. We don’t know what has happened with her. But my sister said she has got the photographs back. We are rushing to Ranchi at present,” he added.
