Patna, June 8: The “confusion” over traffic signals in the state capital does not seem to end.

Five days after The Telegraph reported about the Calcutta-based Webel Mediatronics ignoring several clauses of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the company and the police headquarters, Webel officials said today that they were not at fault as being portrayed.

Superintendent of police (city), Shivdeep Lande, told The Telegraph today that a final letter in this connection would be sent soon.

“Before taking legal action like an FIR, the police will send another letter to them asking the company to clear their stand. If their reply is satisfactory, things will move on. Otherwise, the police will lodge an FIR,” Lande said.

One among the major anomalies, which the police have alleged against Webel, was that the company instead of 18 signals that were to be installed in Patna as per the MoU signed in 2005, it had installed only 17. As per the contract signed, total 18 signals were to be installed in Patna and one in Muzaffarpur.

On this issue, a Webel official, who refused to be named, said: “It was an installation-cum-maintenance contract and the company had installed 19 signals in 2005. However, as a result of some civic works like construction of flyovers and roads, the local administration dismantled two signals.”

The police, on the other hand, stated that the signals went out of order just six months after installation. The company refuted the allegation.

Police sources also said that there were several other points in the contract, which were not fulfiled.
