Patna, March 22: The controversy over Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Alok Kumar’s alleged torture of police cooks seems to be getting murkier with a senior officer saying they are not supposed to work in private and official residences of top officers.

The cooks — actually Grade IV employees and generally referred to as menials — are not supposed to work in private as well as the official residences of senior cops.

On Wednesday, members of Bihar Police Fourth Grade Employees’ Association protested in front of Patna Police Line, alleging that cooks on duty at the SSP’s official residence were being tortured and given stringent punishment for little or no offence.

On Wednesday, a delegation of the association, led by its president Ramashankar Sharma, had met director-general of police (DGP) Abhayanand and director-general (personnel) A.S. Nilekar to probe the matter. Nilekar declined to comment on the same on Thursday but additional director-general of police (ADG) (headquarters) Ravindra Kumar told The Telegraph that cooks were not supposed to be working at the official or personal residences of top police officers.

Asked to comment on the allegations at a news meet on Wednesday evening, Alok Kumar declined. All attempts to contact him on Thursday were futile.

Police website

Patna police on Thursday launched a website www.patnapolice.in. This consists of different plans, which senior superintendent of police Alok kumar introduced during his tenure since February 2011.
