Patna: The Bihar Skill Development Mission of the labour department along with National Skill Development Corporation will organise a competition in Patna - India Skills-Bihar 2018 - from April 20-22 to boost proficiency among youths.
The event will focus on traditional Bihar finesse such as Madhubani painting, Tikuli art, stone pottery along with newer technical skills such as fashion technology, culinary skills, mobile robotics and others.
The winner of the contest has to undergo a further two-tier competition before being adjudged the India Skills Champion and will get the opportunity to represent India at the World Skills Competition to be held in Kazan, Russia, in 2019.
Labour minister Vijay Sinha said: "The event will comprise skill competition spread over 27 categories, panel discussion and exhibition of product and art forms. The event will be inaugurated by chief minister Nitish Kumar on April 20 at the Veterinary College grounds. Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi and others will be present too."
On April 22, Governor Satya Pal Malik will reveal the results and valedictory function to be held on April 22.
The minister said the event is unique because it will display the skills in a wide range of trades starting from traditional trades such as brick-laying, carpentry, wall and floor tilling along with advanced trades such as mechatronics, plastic engineering and mobile robotics.
The event is supported by IIT-Patna, Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology-Hajipur, National Institute of Fashion Technology Patna, National Institute of Technology Patna, Birla Institute of Technology Patna and others.
