Bhagalpur, April 22: A recent disclosure by arrested Bihar-Jharkhand area committee of the CPI (Maoist) secretary, Baidyanath Tiwary alias Samir Da, has sent the police into a tizzy.
Tiwary, who was arrested by the joint team of Banka police and special task force (STF), Patna from Samukhiya More at Banka on April 14, revealed before the police that under the leadership of Maoists of Jharkhand-Bihar Committee, Jodhan Mahato alias Chirag Da, a company military force has been formed.
Chirag conducted the military training of the newly recruited boys and girls in the inaccessible forests and hilly areas of Jamui, Lakhisarai, Munger and Banka. He also revealed that for running the organisation, J-B (Jamui-Bhagalpur) Zone of the CPI (Maoist), has been assigned to collect Rs 5 crore levy every month from the districts of eastern Bihar. In his confessional statement, he said the organisation has formed a sub-zonal committee at Sultanganj in Bhagalpur and an old comrade, Subir Da has been posted as the area commander of the committee. He also said the committee has started a recruitment drive for female cadres and one Juli Mahato has been asked to strengthen the women brigade.
Samir is a native of Giridih district of Jharkhand. The Jharkhand government had earlier announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for his arrest. Samir revealed before the police that the office of the J-B Zone was operating from a house located under the jurisdiction of Adampur police station in Bhagalpur.
On the basis of the statement, a police team from Banka recently conducted raids at some places in the city. “The team conducted raids at Buranath and Deepnagar too. The police found the two children of Samir at a house at Deepnagar but did not find any evidence of the office there. The two sons of the rebel leader are students of a local college and the police did not find any evidence of their involvement with the outfit,” said a member of the team, on the condition of anonymity.
The team also conducted raids at a printing press at Tatarpur after Samir disclosed before the police that the organisation used to get all printing works done at the press. The police, however, did not find anything related to the outfit during the raid, sources said.
The Maoist — whom the police earlier identified as the prime accused in the explosion incident in Bhim Bundh forest in Munger, which claimed the life of then district superintendent of police K.C. Surendra Babu along with his five body guards on January 2005 — also revealed that Surendra fell in the trap of the Maoists in the forest where a training camp was operating. He reportedly told the police about the involvement of some politicians in the incident. However, the Banka police remained tight-lipped on the revelation. “We are not aware of any such confessional statement made by the arrested Maoist in which he disclosed about the involvement of politicians in the infamous SP murder case,” a top-ranking police officer with the Banka police said.
Amit Kumar Jain, deputy inspector-general of police, Bhagalpur zone said that the cops are investigating the facts of the confessional statement made by the arrested Maoist. “He claimed his involvement in several incidents and after verifying the facts, the police of the districts concerned, would take him in remand,” he said.
