She was accompanied by Rahul on keyboard, Arbaaz aka Twinkle on guitar, Prakash on the bass, Krishna Pandey on the dhol and Abhishek on drums. During her performance, she also got clicked with her fans and interacted with them.

A chat with the singer:

You have been to Patna before. What do you think about the city and your fans here?

I came here for a concert here last year. People of Bihar are really sweet. My Facebook and Twitter accounts are still buzzing. I tweeted and also put up a post on Facebook about the concert. My fans here were really excited about the show and were messaging their favourite songs to me. I got messages from my fans saying that they are out of the city so will not be able to attend the concert. It feels great when you are loved for your hard work.

You always wanted to be a playback singer or it happened by chance?

Becoming a playback singer was totally accidental. I was a part of the rock circuit in Delhi along with my friends and used to perform and host shows. During one such show, I met Ehsaan (of Shankar-Ehsaan-Leo), who was the chief guest. After the performance, we met backstage and exchanged pleasantries. Gradually we became good friends. After a long time, I got a call from Ehsaan asking me “Tum Hindi mein gaati ho?'. I said “Haan main gaa leti hoon. But I am more comfortable in western style.” He asked me to send him my musical CD, which he later forwarded to Shankar Mahadevan. Another day, Ehsaan called me told me that Shankar wanted to talk to me and gave him the phone. I was really nervous since I was talking to one of the music legends. Shankar said: “Good work. We should work together.” After that I went to Mumbai to record a song. In another show, Amit Trivedi came to perform and asked me to sing for Dev D. Finally, I decided to relocate to Mumbai.

What kind of songs are hitting the chartbusters these days?

In Bollywood, you cannot say a if particular song would be a hit or a flop. Then, I will ask you why? There is no tried and tested method. I am blessed to be a part of a music industry that is changing and growing with time.

You did your first cameo in Rockstar with Ranbir Kapoor. What was the experience like?

I am happy about the fact that I shared the screen with the boy I love, Ranbir Kapoor. I was asked for a few more shots, but I had date issues. I loved the way Ranbir and Imtiaz work. They are so passionate about their work and it was great to work with them. Ranbir was very sweet and humble. I jumped out of joy when Imtiaz told me that there is a solo shot of me with Ranbir.

According to you, which genre of music fits you the most?

I am not sure. People in India love all kinds of music. When I ask my fans about their favourite songs, they send the names of all the songs I have sung. Most of them like Raabta (Agent Vinod), Choomantar (Mere Brother Ki Dulhan) and the Dhoom:3 title track. I feel lucky that I have been able to deliver songs that my fans like. My fans are giving me a chance to become versatile.

What do you think about the change of lyrics and music in Bollywood?

Everyone is bringing something new to Bollywood. Sneha Khanwalkar has brought folk, Amit Trivedi has introduced experimental songs, Pritam has made party numbers a hit, Vishal has lend the cool urban music and Salim Sulaiman has gifted the Sufi flavour. So everyone is contributing in their own way. Bollywood is changing for good.
