Patna, April 11: Around 30 librarians made chief minister Nitish Kumar lose his patience at his janata darbar — a rare sight — today.
Reason: The librarians were shouting in the darbar over vacancies not being released since 2008.
Nitish, livid, shook off his microphone and asked the librarians not to shout.
“Don’t shout and create panic, otherwise you will be sent away from the darbar. This is not a place to shout, maintain the peace and decorum. There is a proper way to convey the message. You have come with a problem that will be dealt according to the procedure.”
However, the librarians refused to listen to him and kept shouting when Nitish asked them to meet human resource development minister P.K. Shahi. The chief minister still failed to get a respite as he was unable to listen to the grievances of the other complainants amid the chaos.
Shashi Kumar, one of the complainants, said: “Why has the government left 2,596 vacancies for the post and not released any list since 2008? This can’t be tolerated any more. There is complete chaos in the HRD department and nobody is ready to listen to us. We have done the librarian course and are sitting unemployed. When we go to the secretariat with our complaint, the officials do not even talk to us — what is going on here?”
Shahi replied: “There is a proper way to convey the problem. Don’t shout like illiterates.”
HRD principal secretary Anjani Kumar Singh, who was sitting next to Shahi, intervened and said: “The department is unable to release the list because of the panchayat polls. There is a proper procedure for every work and it takes time. If you want to shout, then it is not going to help anybody. We will surely look into the matter, just wait for some time.”
The librarians, who kept shouting, were finally asked to leave the premises by the security.
