Patna, June 28: Tables have turned and it is now time for the Bihar policemen to take lessons on how to behave with the complainants at police stations and what precautions they should take at the time of an operation.

The policemen across the state will be given tips by the special trainers under the Bihar Prashashnik Sudhar Mission (BPSM) for which Rohtas has been selected as a representative district.

Additional director-general-cum-director of the proposed Bihar Police Academy (BPA) at Rajgir in Nalanda, Krishna Choudhary has been appointed as the nodal officer of the centrally sponsored programme.

Announcing the selection of Rohtas as a representative district, Choudhary said on Monday that the policemen across the state would be imparted special training on how to behave with the people visiting the police stations or the offices of their bosses.

“The policemen should behave with the people in such a manner that they (visitors) can express their grievances without any fear. They should converse with the visitors in such a way that they don’t hesitate in expressing their problems,” he said.

Choudhary said the police should work for the welfare of the common masses and that should be displayed in their every action.

“Senior officers often receive complaints of ill-treatment meted out by the policemen manning police stations and offices of lower-rung police officials. That should not be the case,” he added.

The ADG said the complaints of human rights violation could be minimised through sensitisation of the police force.

“We have decided to appoint master trainers, who will be imparted special training in Patna. Later, these master trainers will be sent in the districts for imparting training to other policemen,” he said.

The master trainers would give tips to the policemen posted in fields (districts) on what precautionary measures should be taken at the time of arrest of a person.

“A simple mistake committed by a policeman creates misconception about the entire police force,” he said.

“The main purpose of the programme is to prevent a policeman from committing a mistake that may earn a bad name for the entire force,” Choudhary said, adding that the entire exercise is aimed at making the policemen aware of their responsibilities towards the public.

The ADG admitted that the situation was so bad in some remote areas that the people preferred not to lodge a complaint with the police station.

Aam aadmi abhi bhi thane jane se darte hai (even today common people fear to visit a police station),” he said.

Under the BPSM programme, the officials concerned would study and suggest ways on how to reduce burden on senior police officers and increase their efficiency.

It would also study where the employees in the offices were sufficient or insufficient to cope with the situation.
