Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) on Monday announced Vijay Singh its nominee from Chakai Assembly seat in spite of protests by Hindustani Awam Morcha Secular (HAMS).
LJP parliamentary board chairman and Jamui MP Chirag Paswan on Monday announced the LJP's second list for nine seats, including Chakai and Mokama.
Sumit Singh, HAMS leader and son of former agriculture minister Narendra Singh who is also sitting MLA from Chakai, has staked his claim for the seat. Senior HAMS leaders and even Narendra built pressure on their allies to leave the seat. The LJP has fielded Vijay Singh who in the 2010 Assembly election lost to Sumit by a margin of only 188 votes.
Attempts to contact Sumit failed but sources said Sumit was likely to contest the election as an Independent.
On the other hand, taking a U-turn from its earlier stand, HAMS said there was no conflict within the NDA camp over seat distribution among its partners. HAMS spokesperson Danish Rizwan said: "There is no confusion among the NDA allies partner and our prime focus is to defeat the grand alliance in the elections."
The LJP's second list also included Kanhaiya Singh, the brother of Bahubali Surajbhan Singh. With announcement of Kanhaiya from Mokama, Surajbhan and his wife Veena Devi have become second biggest beneficiary in getting tickets from the LJP. Already, Bibhutipur candidate Ramesh Singh and Himanshu Kumar contesting from Jamalpur are said to be relatives of Surajbhan.
The party has decided to field former MP and strongman Kali Pandey from Kuchaikote. Kali is said to be a don during the '80s who even won the Lok Sabha election as an Independent candidate from Gopalganj withstanding the Congress wave in 1984.
The 19 seats announced by the LJP include Manjhi (Saran), which is being represented by former minister Gautam Singh. Gautam, former minister in the Nitish Kumar cabinet, switched camps a few days back eyeing ticket from Manjhi.
Asked about the rebellion by a brother-in-law Anil Kumar Sadhu, Chirag said the matter would be resolved by the family elders. "I am too junior to him to comment anything publicly. This is a family matter and will be resolved by the elders," he said.
About the resignation of Vaishali Lok Sabha MP Ramakishore Singh from the post of party general secretary and chief whip, Chirag refused to comment and said the matter would be resolved by senior leaders of the party.
"When a person is angry, he says many things. As time passes, things will be normalised," he said, adding the only criterion of winning an election was followed while deciding about tickets.
