Patna district magistrate (DM) Sanjay Kumar Agarwal has received reports from the 21 teams he had formed to inspect 101 ghats before Chhath.

Each team had one officer from the district administration and one engineer.

'I have asked the nodal officers of the teams to conduct daily supervision of the work at the ghats. The responsibility of monitoring the daily supervision has been fixed on the sub-divisional officer concerned,' Agarwal said.

The administration has divided 101 ghats among three authorities. Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (BUIDCO) is responsible for 36 ghats from Nakta Diara Ghat to Golkapur Ghat. Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) is in charge of 60 ghats from Law College Ghat to Mandir Ghat in Didarganj. Danapur Nagar Parishad is looking after five ghats.

The number of actual ghats were devotees will perform the rituals will come down once the district administration announces which ghats are safe and which are dangerous.

'Names of dangerous ghats and safe ghats will be announced after getting all the feedback from the officials engaged in revamping the ghats. I have asked to start the work on war footing as not much time is left for Chhath,' Agarwal said.

The DM has ordered to ensure all ghats have basis amenities such as changing room, control room, water tower, proper lighting, smooth approach road, public address system and deployment of national disaster response force (NDRF) and state disaster response force (SDRF) personnel. Divers will also be deployed at every ghat were rituals would be performed.

'There should not be any dirt on the ghats. PMC has been categorically asked to focus on cleanliness part,' Agarwal said. 'Strict instructions have been issued that devotees should not face any problem.'
