Patna, Feb. 7: The power situation in the state has worsened over the past few days. The state received 811MW of electricity against the allocated 1722MW from the central sector today.
The Centre decided last Friday to slash 70MW of electricity from its earlier quota of 1792MW.
“The power situation in the state is quite critical. We are getting reduced power supply from the Centre. We had to make do with just 811MW today (Monday),” Bihar State Electricity Board spokesman and director of public relations H.R. Pandey told The Telegraph.
Pandey said besides the central allocation of 811MW, the state was getting just 68MW of electricity from its own thermal power plant at Barauni as generation of power from the state’s other plant at Kanti in Muzaffarpur has stopped over the past few days.
Of the 879MW of electricity that is available to cater to the needs of the entire state, the board has to provide 413MW to the state capital besides setting aside 350MW for emergency services.
After these, the state power board is left with just 116MW for the rest of the state.
State’s energy minister Vijendra Prasad Yadav told The Telegraph: “No one can be blamed for the situation as it has arose out of an accident. The officials are trying hard to restore it as soon as possible. There are no alternative sources at the moment. We can’t even purchase it (power) from market right now.”
