A reported spurt in the activities of banned Indian Mujahideen operatives in the state has set alarm bells ringing not only in Patna but also in New Delhi.

Two senior officers of the National Investigation Agency — inspector general Sanjiv Kumar Singh and superintendent of police (SP) Vikas Vaibhav — probing the links of the militant outfit arrived in the city on Thursday.

They met senior officers of the state police about the modus operandi of Indian Mujahideen, which is responsible for serial explosions in New Delhi and the twin blasts in Hyderabad in February.

The SPs of several districts of north Bihar had been asked to attend the meeting. Director-general of police Abhayanand and additional director-general of police (headquarters) Ravinder Kumar were also present along with officials of the special branch.

Over 12 people have been arrested from Darbhanga, Samastipur, Madhubani in north Bihar and Nalanda, Munger and Begusarai in southeast region of the state for alleged links with the terror group. Mohammad Danish Ansari, a close associate of Yasin Bhatkal, the leader of the banned outfit, was arrested from Darbhanga in January this year.

A senior officer present at the meeting, said: “The NIA officials made a presentation on the Bihar module of the Indian Mujahideen and explained its modus operandi to entice youths from rural areas. The officials of the districts, which have been identified as vulnerable, were asked to remain more vigilant.”
