Patna, July 15: Keeping sawan (monsoon) in mind, Patna Marwari Mahila Samiti, Bihar, will organise Sawan Mela on July 16.
The event will be held at Maharana Pratap Bhavan and would have around 25 stalls.
President of the organisation Daya Agrawal said at a press meet today: “These types of events are conducted every year. We would organise all sawan-related competitions on the occasion. There would be mouth-watering food and fun-filled games. The event would also have stalls with gift items for sale and people can purchase rakhis and lumbas (generally tied on the hand of sister-in-law in Marwari community on rakshabandhan). Only women and children are permitted at the event.”
The event would also witness competitions like Solah Shringar and Saas-Bahu dance.
Secretary of the organisation Anita Goel said: “We want to bring the mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law together instead of keeping them apart. Thus, they would be seen dancing and competing with other such couples.”
She added: “The women visitors would be given free green bangles and they can also participate in mehndi, nail art, tattoo and fancy bindi contests.”
Nina Motani, the treasurer of the organisation, said at the press meet: “The funds generated at the event would be spent on the education and vocational training of Dalit and underprivileged girls. We are also having a four-sentence slogan-writing contest at the event. The topic would be girls’ education.”
