Patna, Feb. 5: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has started verifying assessments of Class X students under the continuous and comprehensive evaluation to review if different institutions were following its guidelines.
The board has selected May Flower School as the nodal centre for this year’s evaluation.
Around 35 teachers from different schools in and around Patna are involved in the verification exercise that began yesterday.
It would continue for about eight-10 days.
CBSE city co-ordinator Rajiv Ranjan Sinha told The Telegraph: “This step has been taken to check whether the schools are assessing the students in accordance with the CBSE guidelines or not.”
Last year, too, the board had conducted the exercise, Sinha added. Baldwin Academy was the nodal centre last time.
The continuous and comprehensive evaluation assesses of board examinees on the basis of their performance in classes IX and X. Sources said CBSE has asked the schools to send the results of all formative and summative assessments in Class IX and two formative and one summative assessment in Class X of board examinees by February 8.
Aiming for transparency and fair evaluation at every school, sources added that sample copies from different schools are being verified. The sample copies include marks of the top and bottom five students and any five in between.
The continuous and comprehensive evaluation does not only include academic performance but also reports on the students’ life skills, health check-up, attitude towards teachers and other co-curricular activities.
