Patna, June 26: This monsoon, it’s raining jobs on National Institute of Technology (NIT) campus. A large number of students have landed plum jobs, mostly in core sectors, helping NIT chart out a significant rise of around 10 to 15 per cent in placements.
NIT has so far achieved 76 per cent placements of its outgoing batch, which will possibly touch 85 per cent by the end of next month. From August, the institute will take in fresh batch of students.
Sanjeev Sinha, the placement officer at NIT-Patna, said: “Of 345 students this year, 265 have got job offers and the figure is likely to increase further.”
Sinha said a few students from the present final year batch flunked. Else, the placement figure would have been better. More companies are visiting the institute in search of talent.
For the first time, 11 out of a total of 22 students of the architecture department got placements. A Japanese firm, Denso, visited the institute and hired two students.
Till now, National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has offered the highest remuneration package, recruiting five students on an annual salary package of around Rs 9.5 lakh. K.R. Chandan, a student of mechanical engineering, who has got an NTPC job offer with an annual package of Rs 9.87 lakh, said: “This year, the placement scenario at NIT-Patna is better compared to last year.”
Next to NTPC on the salary front is Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL). It has placed 15 students ranging in the salary bracket of Rs 9 lakh.
The other oil giant, Maharatna Hindustan Petroleum, has also picked eight students on an annual salary of around Rs 9 lakh. Moreover, apart from core sector companies, ABB, a leading company in power and automation technologies, Tata Steel, Reliance Power Ltd (Anil Ambani Group), Gammon India Ltd, a leading Indian construction company, Jindal Steel and Power, Rancore, TVS Motors have visited the institute for campus interviews. The major IT companies visiting the institute includes Accenture Services Pvt Ltd, Bangalore, Infosys, Hyderabad, Patni Computer Systems Ltd and ITC Infotech, Bangalore. The average annual salaries offered by the companies range between Rs 3.5 lakh and Rs 4 lakh.
The placement officer added: “This year, many multinational companies, including Microsoft, ABB and Samsung, have visited the institute. While ABB recruited one student, Microsoft did not offer job to anyone.”
