Patna, Oct. 11: Three years ago, the police had launched its Quick Mobile service with much fanfare but couldn’t anticipate that the force would be a flop. Now, the men on bikes of the squad have been asked to play the role of “friendly neighbourhood” cops.

The Quick Mobile teams, which failed to have much impact on the criminals, will soon start visiting households in their respective jurisdictions, seeking feedback from the residents on law and order and other civic issues, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Alok Kumar told The Telegraph.

“They have to take down the residents’ comments, along with their names and contact details, and submit them to the station house officer (SHO). The SHO will have the liberty to call on the residents anytime,” he said.

At present, there are about 120 Quick Mobile teams in various parts of the state capital, with an average of two pairs in each police station.

Each pair has been provided with a high-speed two-wheeler. They also get petrol allowance.

“The service of these constables has been revamped. Their motorcycles will have a new look with a red metallic strip in front. Besides, they have been asked to keep their beacon on while patrolling the city in evening. The aim is to help people identify them from a distance,” the SSP said.

He added that the police could know a lot about the city’s law and order from the residents’ feedback.

“Four Quick Mobile constables will carry a register each. They will have to meet at least 10 families a day and take down their complaints. The residents can give tip-offs to these policemen about any person they find suspicious and also on civic issues such as power scarcity and water woes. They will have to carefully note down these points along with the residents’ contacts. The SHO of a police station area or a deputy superintendent of police can call up the people and verify the complaints,” Kumar added.

Besides, the Quick Mobile men will meet sector officers of the areas and hold meetings with the residents on Sundays.

“Such meetings can be held at any public place. At the weekly meetings, several issues will be discussed,” the SSP said.

He added that a crash course has been organised to make the Quick Mobile team members aware of their responsibilities.
