Campus days beckon doctors on April 2 - Former students of Nalanda Medical College to meet for seminar & celebrations

Around 1,000 former students of Nalanda Medical College are scheduled to participate in its 45th foundation day-cum-alumni meet celebrations on April 2.

The participation of the oldest batch students of the college (1970 batch) would be one of the attractions of the programme.

Talking about the foundation day celebrations, Sahjanand Prasad Singh, the patron of the organising committee of the foundation day-cum-alumni meet celebrations, said on Monday: 'The programme will start with a two-hour scientific session in which the college alumni would talk on many diseases and their new approaches of treatment. The scientific session would be followed by the formal inauguration of the programme by chief minister Nitish Kumar. Health minister Ramdhani Singh and health department principal secretary Brajesh Mehrotra would be the guest of the honour.'

Shiv Kumari Prasad, principal, Nalanda Medical College, said the history of the college would also be discussed on this occasion and one session would be devoted to the college founders - Dr Vijay Narain Singh and Dr Madhusudan Das.

'Vijay Narain, Das, Dr Shailendra Kumar Sinha along with former chief minister Krishna Kant Singh founded the college in 1970,' said Prasad.

Talking about the alumni who would be participating in the event, Bimal Karak, chairman of steering committee and one of the alumni, said: 'Former students from different states and even abroad would participate in the event. Ashok Sazwal from Jammu and Kashmir, B.K. Prasad from Bangalore, R.K. Sinha from Calcutta, Sandhya Arya from London would be among the alumni who would participate in the event. While scientific session would be organised in the morning, cultural programmes would be organised same day in the evening which would be held in the poolside area of Bankipore Club.'

Santosh Kumar, superintendent, Nalanda Medical College and Hospital, said no new facilities would be inaugurated during the college's foundation day celebration this time.

'Celebrations would be simple. No new facilities would be inaugurated on the foundation day,' said superintendent Santosh.

The college with provision of 100 students in each batch is situated in Kankerbagh Old Bypass Road.

The departments of anatomy, physiology, biochemestry, microbiology, PSM, foecal microbiota transplantation and pharmacology are situated there.

It offers undergraduate courses with specialisation in medicine and dental surgery.
