New Delhi, Aug. 20: Khagaria MP Dinesh Chandra Yadav today demanded government jobs for family members of those killed in yesterday’s train tragedy and construction of a foot over bridge at Dhamara Ghat station.

Underlining that devotees are forced to walk on the railway tracks in the absence of any road to reach the Kattyani temple, Yadav said in the Lok Sabha that the victims who “trespassed” on the tracks and came under Rajya Rani Express had no other way to reach the temple.

“The Kattyani temple is located on the southern tip of the station yard. As there is no road to reach the temple, people have to walk on the tracks. On Monday, they were walking on the tracks when the tragedy occurred,” Yadav, the JD(U) MP, said in the Lok Sabha.

Yadav criticised minister of state for railways Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury for blaming the state government for the tragedy and said the minister should refrain from making allegation before an inquiry was conducted.

He said Dhamara Ghat station in Khagaria should be upgraded by increasing the number of platforms and constructing a foot over bridge to avoid such a tragedy in the future.

“Government job should be given to each of the family members of those killed in the accident,” he demanded, along with an enhanced compensation amount of Rs 10 lakh each.

Railways have announced Rs 5 lakh as compensation.
