A businessman was found dead inside the bar of an upscale club on Thursday morning.

Some employees of the club, under the jurisdiction of Gandhi Maidan police station, spotted the deceased, Viresh Ranjan, after they opened the bar on Thursday. Popular as Veeru Babu, the Rajendra Nagar resident was a member for the club for long.

A source said Ranjan attended a poolside party at the club on Wednesday night. He allegedly consumed liquor till late in the night at the get-together. Thereafter, he entered the bar but nobody noticed him, said the source.

The club officials remained tight-lipped on the unfortunate incident. “He was an honorary member of the club. He used to come here almost every day. His death is shocking and the police must find how he died,” a source in the club told The Telegraph.

Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manu Maharaaj said a medical team would be constituted to conduct post-mortem and ascertain the reasons behind Ranjan’s death.

“The family of the deceased has alleged foul play and an FIR has been lodged at the Gandhi Maidan police station. At present, it is difficult for the police to make any comment. One Jeetendra, who works in the club, found Ranjan’s body inside the bar. He raised an alarm, after which the police were informed. The real cause of death can be ascertained only after we get the post-mortem report,” the senior officer told The Telegraph.

“The police will be questioning the club’s employees and other people in connection with the incident. We have learnt that there was a poolside get-together yesterday (on Wednesday) at the club and Ranjan attended it. It seems he was drunk and was at the venue till late in the night. After several invitees and most of the club officials left, he seems to have entered the bar. We want to know under what circumstances Ranjan entered it. Also, we are trying to find out some eyewitnesses. The necessary investigations are going on and things will be clear soon,” said another police officer.

“The bar was locked from outside and Ranjan’s body was recovered this (Thursday) morning. During the initial investigations, we have found that he entered the bar asking for more drinks and sat by a table. It was very late in the night and one or two employees were inside the bar then. Perhaps, none of them noticed him, locked the door of the bar from outside and left. We shall conduct more investigations. Right now, all options are open before the police,” the officer added.
