Observer for Cong polls

Patna: The All India Congress Committee on Thursday appointed Rajya Sabha member and former party chief of Bengal, Pradip Bhattacharya, as pradesh returning officer for organisational polls in Bihar.

"The polls would be conducted on the basis of party membership till May 15," Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee chief spokesperson H.K. Verma said.

'ISI' man held

Patna: A suspected operative of Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) was arrested from India-Nepal border in West Champaran, around 200km northwest of Patna, on Thursday. Police said a joint team of Bettiah police and personnel of National Investigation Agency conducted a raid at Sikta in the the early hours on Thursday and arrested Aabi Hussain when he was trying to sneak into India from Nepal.

Bribe arrest

Patna: Sleuths of Vigilance Investigation Bureau arrested an employee of the department of revenue and land reforms, Ashok Yadav, from Begusarai on Thursday for allegedly accepting Rs 10,000 as bribe from a resident for conducting a land survey.

Tortoise seizure

Katihar: A consignment of 185 tortoises was seized from a train at Katihar railway station. The station house officer of Katihar GRP Dhananjay Kumar said a person has been detained for interrogation.

Mishap deaths

Patna: Three persons died and 12 suffered injuries when the passenger vehicle they were travelling in turned turtle near Dharmapur village in Nalanda on Thursday afternoon.

Patna: Bihar Provincial Bank Employees' Association on Thursday demanded chief minister Nitish Kumar to declare a bank holiday on Buddh Purnima on May 10.
