Life term for rape, murder

Chhapra: Additional district judge V. Ashok Kumar Gupta on Tuesday sentenced three men to life imprisonment for raping a minor and murdering her.

The three are Saroj Chaudhary, Sudhir Chaudhray and Mahal Chaudhary of Mallah Tola village under Revelganj police station. The rape and murder happpened in August 2000.

Arrests

Darbhanga: Police caught Radheshyam Sharma on Tuesday in connection with the murder of an eight-year-old. The accused was arrested under Singhwara police station. In another incident, Vinod Rai, resident of Jhanjharpur in Madhubani district, was nabbed on charges of misbehaving with a woman passenger travelling on the Patna-bound Lokmanya Tilak Express.

One killed

Khagaria: Surendra Singh, former mukhiya of Haryo panchayat, was killed by armed criminals at Satar village under the jurisdiction of Morkahi police station of the district on Tuesday. Residents blocked the road and resorted to arson to protest against the murder.

Fake degrees

Siwan: District programme officer (establishment) Abdul Ahmad Khan on Tuesday dismissed 42 teachers of government primary and middle schools after their certificates were found to be fake.

IMA concern

Buxar: The district chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Tuesday expressed concern over the extortion demand from a medical practitioner, Mahendra Prasad, who has been asked to pay up Rs 25 lakh.

Blood camp

Patna: The Indian Red Cross Society in collaboration with Food Corporation of India organised a blood donation camp on Tuesday. Deputy general manager (personnel) Virendra Kumar Bharti inaugurated the camp.

Security stepped up

Patna: Security forces have stepped up patrolling in Maoist-hit districts in the wake of threats to blow up government buildings in Jamui, Jehanabad and Gaya districts.

The Maoists have also asked block development officers of Hulasganj (Jehanabad), Belganj (Gaya) and Giddhaur (Jamui) to quit their jobs or face dire consequences.

Train halt

Patna: A media note from East Central Railway on Tuesday stated Lokmanya Tilak Terminal-Kamakhya AC Express will stop at Hajipur for two minutes on an experimental basis for six months from August 1.

Patna: Paras HMRI Hospital held a blood donation camp on Tuesday to mark World Blood Donor Day. The camp aimed to create awareness and educate people about the importance of blood donation.

Patna: The medical director of Public Awareness for Healthful Approach for Living, Diwakar Tejaswi, on Tuesday said people between the age group of 18 and 58 years should donate blood twice a year.

Patna: Children from various schools took part in a painting competition organised by Bradford International School on Tuesday to mark World Blood Donor Day.
