Naugachia: An accident was averted on Thursday when seven compartments of the Barauni-Katihar passenger train rolled across broken tracks along the Katihar-Barauni section of the east central railways. A railway employee said the driver noticed the broken section but could not stop immediatel.
Crank calls
Motihari: Ajay Kumar Singh, councillor of ward 13 of Motihari Nagar Parishad, was arrested on Wednesday on charges of instigating Manish Kumar (20) to make crank calls to Dhaka RJD MLA Faisal Rahman. Singh was released on bail.
Liquor haul
Patna: Police arrested Santosh Kumar, a liquor supplier, and seized seven bottles and Rs 72,400 from his possession. He confessed to police that he would supply liquor at select hotels and restaurants at around Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,500 per bottle.

Patna: The Indian Association of Lawyers organised a discussion on demonetisation on the premises of Patna High Court on Thursday. Chairman Yogesh Chandra Verma said, "Demonetisation is neither legally valid nor will it achieve the objective for which it was enforced."

Patna: JDU MLC Sanjay Singh on Thursday called RJD senior leader and former union minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh a "mentally sick" person. Sanjay demanded Lalu Prasad to suspend Raghuvansh from the party for making derogatory comments about chief minister Nitish Kumar, and causing damage to the unity of Grand Alliance.

Gopalganj: Additional District Judge VI Ramashraya Prasad on Thursday rejected the bail application of the five accused in the Khajurbanni hooch tragedy.

Chhapra: Additional District Judge IX Om Prakash Pandey on Thursday awarded ten years of imprisonment to Dr Umesh Kumar on charges of performing dilation and curettage on Guria Kumari, without her consent, which resulted in her death.

Road rage
Gaya: Arti Kumari (20) was crushed to death by a speeding truck near Silaunja mor under the jurisdiction of Balaganj police station on Thursday as she was returning home after attending classes at a coaching institute. Residents blocked the Gaya-Patna road for more than an hour after the incident, but the driver of the vehicle escaped.
