Relief driver dead

Raxaul: Shambhu Giri (48), a bus driver engaged in government relief work, died at the camp here on Sunday.

Having returned from a trip to Kathmandu from where he had brought a group of Indians to the relief camp, Giri started demanding food. Suddenly, he collapsed and died. Raxaul sub-divisional officer Sayeeda Khatoon said the exact reason behind the driver's death would be known only after the post-mortem report arrives.

Paswan visit

Patna: Union minister for consumer affairs, food and public distribution Ram Vilas Paswan would visit relief camps set up for earthquake victims at Raxaul on Monday.

Skill centre

Munger: Former Union minister and senior BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain on Sunday announced that the Centre would open at least one skill development centre in each parliamentary constituency of the state. There are 40 parliamentary constituencies in Bihar. During his visit to Munger, the BJP leader also inspected the under-construction rail-cum-road bridge on Ganga and expressed satisfaction at the progress of work.

Reds in net

Munger: Jamui police on Sunday arrested Naxalite leaders Raju Yadav (40) and his associate Wakil Yadav (35) from Kusheshwar village under Chakai police station. Jamui superintendent of police Jayant Kant said Raju was carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 on his arrest and had been evading the police for a long time. Charges of violation of arms act, kidnapping for ransom and other allegations have been levelled against him in the past.#

Train counter

Patna: Union minister of state for railways Manoj Sinha on Sunday inaugurated a new booking and reservation counter at Dildarnagar station under Danapur division. He said more facilities would be added to the station. East Central Railway general manager A.K. Mittal was present on the occasion.

Quake help

Patna: Ministers, including Awadhesh Prasad Kushwaha (sugarcane) and Ramdhani Singh (health), apart from several MLAs and MLCs on Sunday met Nitish Kumar and handed over a cheque for the chief minister's relief fund for earthquake victims.

Cong leader dead

Patna (PTI): Former Union minister and veteran Congress leader Baleshwar Ram died on Saturday night owing to kidney ailment at a private hospital. He was 87.

Chief minister Nitish Kumar paid tributes to Ram. Nitish announced that the last rites would be done with full state honours. In a condolence message, Nitish said Ram's death had left a huge void in Bihar.

Ram is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters. A five-term MLA from various Assembly constituencies since 1952, Ram served in ministerial capacity in various Congress governments in Bihar in the 1960s and 1970s.

Health camp

Patna: More than 500 patients turned up at a health camp organised by Mahavir Cancer Sansthan on the premises of DAV Inter School in Danapur on Sunday. Doctors from the institution took part in the event to provide their services.

Girls drown

Katihar (PTI): Two girls, Sajeeda Khatun (8) and Saqiya Khatun (6), drowned in a pond at Harnathpur village in Katihar on Sunday. Balia block police station in-charge Anupam Kumar said they slipped while bathing. Their bodies were fished out later.
