Patna, Jan. 24: To mark 100 years of formation of Bihar in 2012, the state tourism department has decided to go all out to brand the state as a centre for tourism. It will rope in the services of various public relations agencies to ensure the branding of the state is done professionally.

“Very soon advertisements will be put up for roping in the services of agencies that specialises in branding,” tourism department principal secretary Deepak Kumar told The Telegraph.

The Bihar branding work would be launched after March, when the state enters its 100th year of formation.

Bihar was separated from Bengal on March 22, 1912. On March 22 this year, the state would complete 99 years of its formation.

The branding of the state would cross the national boundary.

The tourism department has also decided to organise road shows, seminars and conventions after March this year. The events would continue for a year and culminate in a mega show to be organised in March 2012 when the state would celebrate the 100th year of its formation.

The road shows to be organised across the country and in some select foreign locations would promote the rich cultural and historical heritage of the state and also its other features like folk art forms.

“Services of event managers would be roped in for organising these road shows and if required the department officials would also be sent in these shows for making them more effective,” the principal secretary said.

Post if you know

Bihar branding apart, the department has also decided to adopt a unique way to enrich the information about history, culture and archaeology of the different regions in the state.

It pertains to adding a feature in the department website that would allow people to upload information about their native places on the website.

“There are many unknown things about the state which need to be brought to the notice of everyone. This will be done by allowing people to share their knowledge about facts which will help us spread more knowledge about the state,” Kumar said.

He said comments of people would be sought on the information uploaded and before accepting any information as authentic, experts would be asked to vet it. “The process would continue for six months,” he said.

The said process would not only help in enriching the knowledge about the state. The authentic information gathered through this initiative would also be used during the course of Bihar branding, he added.
