Boat capsize
Muzaffarpur, Aug. 1: Five persons drowned in the swollen Bagmati river when a country-boat ferrying them capsized near Chainpur Majhi Ghat in the district today.
Senior administrative officers said while four persons swam to safety, one Vikas Kumar was still missing. Divers have been pressed into service to trace the missing.

Patna: The president of women's wing of RLSP, Seema Saxena, has expressed concern over mob violence in Bihar. She said the priority of the new government should be to enforce the rule of law. She said crime against the trading community was also a challenge for the new government.
Robbery
Samastipur: A gang of criminals robbed five houses in Thanka village on Tuesday night and decamped with goods worth over Rs 2 lakh.
River level
Patna: Central Water Commission has indicated that all rivers flowing in Bihar were below danger-level. According to weather forecast, there would be light rain in the catchment areas of rivers.

Patna: Several CPI workers joined RLSP on Tuesday in the presence of Union minister Upendra Kushwaha.

Patna: Former chief minister Jagannath Mishra said Nitish Kumar's joining hands with the BJP has raised question mark on the Congress to take on the BJP in the 2019 elections.
Shot dead
Sitamarhi: A grocer, Dipu Kumar, was shot dead by criminals riding a motorbike on Tuesday evening in the district headquarters town. Local traders shouted slogans against the police when the latter reached the spot.
Firing
Sitamarhi: Motorbike-borne criminals shot at a bank employee, Abhishek Kumar, and snatched Rs 1.5 lakh from him near Bathnaha Bazar in the district on Tuesday. The injured was admitted to a private hospital.
Surprise visit
Patna: Divisional commissioner Anand Kishor paid a surprise visit to Shri Krishna Memorial Hall and asked committee members to ensure cleanliness of the hall and premises.
He warned that he would cancel the contract with agencies if he found lapses. Kishor also announced that the main gates of Gandhi Maidan would be closed to prevent entry of two-wheelers.
Course
Patna: Paras HMRI Hospital imparted emergency basic technician course to 20 students under the skill development scheme. Project director Amit Kumar said such programmes were running in 60 centres in Bihar.
