The BJP on Thursday said it would go beyond the special status demand and seek a special financial package to the tune of Rs 50,000 crore for the state from the next government at the Centre.

“The demand will not be a political deal as chief minister Nitish Kumar is doing with the Congress for the special status category,” BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi told reporters after releasing a booklet of the party on its demands to the next Union government, which would be read out in the Hunkar Rally.

“We shall stand by our demands. In case the BJP comes to power at the Centre, we shall mount pressure on our own government to accept them,” he said. In a veiled attack on Nitish, Modi said: “The special category state would solve only five per cent of Bihar’s problem” Apart from according special status and financial package to Bihar, the BJP would demand completion of the pending railway projects in the state.

The party would demand separate feeder lines in the pattern of Gujarat and naming Central University of Bihar (CUB), Gaya, after Lord Buddha and CUB, Motihari, after Mahatma Gandhi. It would also raise its voice for making Patna University a central university.

Its other demands would include starting the Amritsar-Calcutta industrial corridor passing through Bihar and a move by the Centre to get Nalanda, Vaishali and Vikramshila declared world heritage sites by Unesco.
