Biz plea to RBI chief
• Patna, July 22: The Bihar Chamber of Commerce and Industries president, P.K. Agrawal, today said it was unfortunate that banks in different parts of the state were refusing to accept deposits in coins from businessmen on the pretext of shortage of manpower to count them, and has decided to write a letter to the Union finance minister and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor over the issue.
He has also requested the RBI and the State Bank of India (SBI) to organise camps to collect coins from businessmen.
Recital
• Patna: Gyan Niketan organised an inter-school poetry recital in the memory of renowned Hindi poetess Mahadevi Verma. Hindi author Shri Ashok was the chief guest on the occasion, while school principal J.K. Mukherjee presided over the function in which several schools of the state capital participated.
Strike call
• Patna: The 17th conference of the Indian Bank Employees' Association (IBEA), Bihar-Jharkhand, was held at AN Sinha Institute of Social Studies in the state capital on Saturday. B. Prasad, the president of Bank Employees Federation, Bihar, criticised the economic policies of the central government and pointed out that bank employees across the country will go on strike on August 22.
Accident
• Sheikhpura: At least 20 people suffered injuries when a speeding car crushed them at Aundhe Faridpur village on Saturday. The incident occurred when the residents were waiting for a vehicle on the road. The driver of the car lost control and hit the residents, who have been admitted to the Biharsharif sadar hospital. The car has been seized. However, the driver managed to escape.
Boys detained
• Mangalore (PTI): Thirteen boys from Bihar, who arrived here to pursue madrasa education, were detained at the central railway station as they did not have valid documents. They were handed over to the Child Welfare Committee. The boys were headed to the Udayavar Jammat Masjid near Udupi. Police had checked the group on suspicion of child trafficking.
Seizure
• Darbhanga: Police seized a mobile phone with a SIM card and an iron rod from the prisoners' ward of the divisional jail in which criminal Mukesh Pathak is lodged. Pathak is an accused in the killing of two engineers of a private construction company engaged in road construction in Darbhanga.
Kids rescued
• Araria: Three child labourers were rescued by the personnel of the Shasashtra Seema Bal from Forbesganj railway station premises on Saturday when they were waiting for a train. The traffickers, however, managed to escape.
