Meira visit

Patna: Meira Kumar, the Opposition’s presidential candidate, is expected to visit Patna on Monday to participate in a meeting of the Congress legislature party. She is expected to meet chief minister Nitish Kumar as well. 

Left meeting

Patna: The Communist Party of India’s state council meeting will be held in Patna on July 6 and 7, after the state working committee’s meeting on July 5. Senior CPI leaders Gurudas Das Gupta and Ramendra Kumar among others will take part in the July 5 meeting. 

LJP drive

Patna: The Lok Janshakti Party will launch a membership campaign on national president Ram Vilas Paswan’s 72nd birthday on July 5. 

GST talk

Patna: The Bihar Chamber of Commerce and Industries on Sunday organised a discussion on the Goods and Services Tax at which GST Network vice-president Shashi Bhushan Singh, the trade body’s president P.K. Agrawal, vice-president N.K. Thakur, treasurer Vishal Tekriwal and others were present.

Lightning death in Arwal

• Patna: One person was killed and five people were injured after lightning struck them at Keyal village under Karpi block in Arwal district. The next of the kin of the deceased have been paid an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh. The injured persons have been admitted to the district sadar hospital.

Doc meet

• Patna: Orthopaedic surgeons from Delhi and Bihar spoke on back pain and joint pain during a continuing medical education programme organised by the Bihar Orthopaedic Association at a city hotel on Saturday. Vikram Singh from Delhi said according to various studies, if 84 per cent people with back pain are not treated initially, their pain turns into chronic pain. Surgeon R.K. Sharma (in picture by Ashok Sinha above) spoke on knee joint replacement.

Body found

• Patna: Malsalami police on Sunday recovered the body of 20-year-old caterer Sonu Kumar, who was missing since June 30. His family members, who had lodged a missing complaint at the police station, claimed Sonu's friends killed him over some dispute.

Three killed

• Aurangabad: Three members of a family, including a 4-year-old boy, were killed when a speeding vehicle knocked them down near Bhairopur village in the district on Sunday.

Loot probe

• Patna: Senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaaj on Sunday visited Jehanabad and initiated a probe in connection with Rs 22 lakh loot case from the cash van of Punjab National Bank. The forensic science laboratory team of Patna police also visited the spot to collect samples.

Liquor seizure

• Patna: Bihar police on Sunday seized 300 cartons of Indian-made foreign liquor from a container truck at Paterha village near a toll plaza on NH-77 (Hajipur-Muzaffarpur Road) under the jurisdiction of Sarai police station in Vaishali district.

Shot at

Muzaffarpur: Ravikant Ranjan (22), a mobile phone trader, was shot at and critically injured when a gang of criminals opened fire near a hotel on NH 28 late on Saturday night.

Extortion

Motihari: A medical practitioner, Binod Kumar Singh, has allegedly received threats for failing to pay Rs 10 lakh to extortionists. He lodged an FIR on Sunday.
