Five rapists jailed

Patna: Additional district and sessions Judge Krishna Pratap Singh on Thursday sentenced four persons to ten years rigorous imprisonment in connection with the gang rape of a 12-year-old-girl on April 6, 2011. The convicted are Krishna Nagar resident Manoj Kumar, and Kamla Nehru Nagar residents Yogendra Ravi Das, Mohammad Shahabuddin and Suraj Paswan.

In another incident, additional district and sessions judge Triloku Nath Tripathi on Thursday sentenced Ranjeet Paswan, resident of Peepra, to seven years rigorous imprisonment in connection with a rape case. Peepra police had an FIR against him in September, 2013.

Muzaffarpur: Armed men shot at Mukesh Kumar and looted Rs. 50,000 from him near Jhitka on Thursday. Armed criminals in Gopalganj looted Rs 2.60 lakh and ornaments worth Rs 20 lakh from the shop of a retired army officer Magani Prasad on Wednesday night. The incident occured at Digwa Dubauli .

Nitish visit

Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar will visit Noida on June 29 to address a rally in support of prohibition. He has been invited by an NGO that works towards banning liquor.

Results

Patna: The results of the fourth Kumudini Merit scholarship was declared on Thursday by trust chairperson Usha Kumari. A total of 35 students were selected.

Plea to CM

Patna: JP movement activists on Thursday asked chief minister Nitish Kumar and RJD chief Lalu Prasad to arrange for the proper treatment of a senior leader, Bhartendu Krantikari, who is currently undergoing treatment at AIIMS, New Delhi.

Rights order

Patna: Bihar Human Rights Commission on Thursday awarded compensation of Rs 3,000 per head, to be paid by the Bihar State Power (Holding) Company Limited, to all the 64 victims whose huts were gutted in a fire caused by short-circuit in Araria district. In another case, the commission awarded compensation of Rs.3 lakh to be paid to the mother of deceased Chandan Kumar, who died in custody at Beur jail.

Threat call

Motihari: Nishant Kumar Priyadarshi, a first class judicial magistrate posted at the Motihari Civil Court, received a threat call demanding Rs 20 lakh.

He received the call on his cellphone while in office. He has lodged an FIR in this regard with Town police station.

Compensation

Patna: Bihar Human Rights Commission on Thursday awarded compensation of Rs 50,000 each to Mojhammad Shamsad Alam and his brother Mohammad  Irshad, to be paid by the state home department within two months for false implication and detention for six months. 

Stay order

Patna: District and sessions judge Virendra Kumar on Thursday put a stay on the arrest of Patna mayor Afzal Imam in connection with an attempt to murder case.
