Order for PhD guides
Gaya, Aug. 19: Magadh University has decided that one guide would take in at least three candidates for a six-month preparatory course necessary to start PhDs under the University Grants Commission guidelines.
The university had sought the list of vacancies for PhD guides from its 44 constituent and four minority colleges. Although the list is not yet available, dean, students welfare, Magadh University, Sitaram Singh issued a letter to the institutes on August 16 with the directive. The preparatory course is for 36 subjects. Classes will commence from September 16.
Track death
Aurangabad: Three women were crushed to death under the Mahabodhi Express near Baghoi railway station on the Gaya-Mughalsarai section of East Central Railway early on Tuesday morning. The victims — Pushpa Devi, her daughter-in-law Ranti Devi and their neighbour Sushma Devi — were crossing the tracks when the accident occurred.
Facelift
Chhapra: The roundabouts of Chhapra town would be renovated and statues of personalities such as Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru would be installed at the roundabouts. Saran district magistrate Kundan Kumar said on Tuesday political leaders have come forward with proposals to provide monetary help for the project.
Court building
Chhapra: A new building for judicial officers posted in the town would come up on the Chhapra court premises. Executive engineer, building construction, Harendra Kumar on Tuesday said Rs 7.43 crore would be spent on constructing the buildings. Tenders for the work would be floated soon.

Health wings
Patna: The outpatient departments for senior citizens started functioning at Patna Medical College and Hospital and Nalanda Medical College and Hospital on Tuesday. The wings were inaugurated formally on August 16.

Patna: Two persons were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the May 9 murder of one Tara Devi. Sources said she was murdered over a land dispute.
