Czech woman caught at border
Bagaha: A resident of the Czech Republic, Sujana Takks, 45, was intercepted on Tuesday afternoon by a patrol team of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) while she was trying to cross the India-Nepal border through the Valmikinagar barrage.
She was later handed over to Bagaha police. The police have detained her for interrogation.
An SSB official quoted Takks as saying she had been living in Nepal for four to five months and was crossing the border to visit the ashram of Maharshi Valmiki. A valid Nepal visa was found in her possession, said Manohar, assistant commandant, SSB.
Nuptial talks
Madhubani: A ceremony to negotiate marriages would start at Saurath Sabha in the district on Wednesday. It will conclude on July 15. Saurath Sabha is a historical place in the Saurath Gachhi area of Saurath village where families come to negotiate their wards’ nuptials. The event is done in presence of a marriage registrar.
Rupam plea
Patna: The single bench of Patna High Court headed by Justice A.K. Trivedi on Tuesday rejected the petition of Rupam Pathak, who was seeking transfer of her case to Patna from the Purnea court, claiming that the accused were influencing the witnesses. Rupam is a convict in the murder of former Purnea BJP MLA Rajkishore Keshari.
Order to reply
Patna: The division bench of Patna High Court comprising Justice Navin Sinha and Justice Vikash Jain on Tuesday directed the state government and the State Health Society, Bihar, to submit a reply within three weeks on irregularities in purchasing medicines, surgical items and medical equipment under the National Rural Health Mission. The bench issued the directive after hearing a PIL filed by one Sudhir Kumar Ojha.
Embankments
Patna: The water resources department issued a press note on Tuesday, stating that all river embankments are in good shape. Sources in the department said field officials were keeping a strict vigil on the embankments falling under their jurisdiction. They have been directed to immediately take corrective steps in case of any threat to the embankments.
Visit
Patna: Director of American Center, Calcutta, Jeffrey Reneau on Tuesday visited American Corner, Patna, on the premises of the Indian Institute of Business Management on Tuesday. He interacted with the faculty and students on issues such as exchange of scientific information, technical and vocational education training opportunity and development of community colleges in Bihar.
Protest
Patna: Members of Youth Congress staged a protest programme outside the Patna collectorate in support of their 10-point charter of demands, including education loan.
Progress report
Patna: Food and consumer protection minister Shyam Rajak on Tuesday directed the department’s officials to provide an updated report on the progress made in the construction of godowns. The Officials have been directed to submit the report within a week.
