Hockey feat for Nalanda school

Purulia (PTI): Nalanda Sainik School Bihar won the All India Sainik School Hockey title defeating Bijapur Sainik School Karnataka in a cliff hanger final match played at the Purulia Sainik School compound here on Thursday.

The best player of the tournament was Rahul More of Satara Sainik School Maharashtra, while Nalanda Sainik School goalkeeper Keshab Kumar was adjudged the best goalkeeper of the tournament. The highest goal scorers of the tournament were Krikesh Deshmukh of Sajapurtira Sainik School Himachal Pradesh and Shuham Thakur of Satara Sainik School Maharashtra.

Boutique certificates

Patna: Non-government organisations World Vision India and NICE Society organised a certificate distribution programme for at least 100 women and youths trained in boutique-related works at the Legislative Council on Thursday.

Exam tips

Patna: Goal Institute on Thursday organised a seminar for medical aspirants at Kalidas Rangalaya in Patna where they were advised on how to crack medical entrance examinations. Vipin Kumar, managing director, Goal Institute, said students from Bihar do exceptionally well in medical entrance examinations.

DM order

Patna: District magistrate N. Saravana Kumar on Thursday disposed of 85 cases at his janata durbar. He also directed the officials to show sensitivity while disposing similar cases.

Food security

Patna: The economics department of Patna Women’s College, in collaboration with the economics department of Patna University, organised a national seminar on “Food security in India: issues and challenges” on Thursday. Shishir Sinha, principal secretary, food and civil supplies department, was the chief guest at the seminar sponsored by the University Grants Commission.

Bill concern

Patna: Patna University faculty member Shiva Jatan Thakur on Thursday expressed concern over some of the points in the Patna University and Bihar State Universities Amendment Act, 2013. He claimed that implementation of the amendment would lead to denial of promotion for college and university teachers.

Highway protest

Muzaffarnagar (PTI): A mob blocked the Delhi-Yamunotri Highway on Thursday after three activists of a religious movement were allegedly beaten up by some persons near Kandhla town of Shamli district, police said. The victims — Murtaza Hussain, Imran Nadvi and Tehsin Ahmad, all members of Tablighi Jamaat — from Bihar were rushed to a local hospital. They were on their way to Kandhla town in the district when the unidentified persons dragged them out of their vehicle and assaulted them on Wednesday.

Fodder scam

Ranchi (PTI): Former Bihar minister Vidya Sagar Nishad, one of the accused in the fodder scam case (RC 20A/96), on Thursday presented his arguments in a special CBI court. His counsel put up the defence in the court of Pravas Kumar Singh. It would continue on Friday too. Nishad, who was a former labour minister in the RJD regime, is one of the 45 accused in the fodder scam case.
