Fake notes land ‘ISI’ agent in net
Motihari (PTI): A suspected ISI agent was arrested near Raxaul town in East Champaran district in connection with a case of smuggling fake Indian currency, an official said on Sunday.
Acting on a tip-off, teams of the directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) from Patna and Muzaffarpur nabbed Mohammad Jameel alias Bhura (27) two days ago, DRI deputy director Vidyut Vikas said. A resident of Purana Bazar locality of Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district, Jameel was wanted in connection with the recovery of fake notes with a face value of about Rs 30 lakh brought to New Delhi by a courier from Shenzhen town of China on June 23 last, he said. The accused was working for Pakistan-based ISI operative, Iqbal Sana alias Hafiz, and circulating fake currency notes in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi at the latter’s behest, Vikas said, adding that Jameel had gone underground and taken shelter in Nepal after recovery of fake currency notes.
Contraband arrest
Gaya (PTI): A Special Auxiliary Police jawan, Anirudh Prasad Singh, was nabbed with contraband in the district on Saturday. Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested Singh from the central jail premises and recovered 200gm ganja, small quantity of heroin and liquor from his possession. The accused was later produced before a court, which remanded him in judicial custody.
Boat capsize
Bhagalpur (PTI): A labourer drowned and 34 others swam to safety after a boat capsized in floodwater of river Ganga at Laxmipur village in the district on Sunday. The deceased is identified as Khagesh Yadav. The 35 labourers, natives of Laxmipur village, were on way to Navgachhia town for work.
Close shave
Muzaffarpur: Revenue and land reforms minister Ramai Ram had a narrow escape on Sunday near Mushari block of the district when two groups of villagers clashed with each other. The minister’s cavalcade got trapped in the incident and his official vehicle was damaged. The minister didn’t suffer any injury. Police have detai- ned three youths in this connection.
Criminal held
Buxar: A criminal, Jainuddin Khan, was arrested late on Saturday night from his native village Badka Gaon under the jurisdiction of Industrial police station of the district. Khan was wanted in several cases. Buxar sub-divisional police officer Shibli Nomani confirmed the arrest.
Buffalo deaths
Buxar: Residents of Banarpur village in Chausa block of the district on Sunday blocked the Buxar-Mohania road for several hours in protest against the death of five buffaloes after a live electrical wire fell on them. The protesters lifted the blockade after assurance from senior officials.
Diesel subsidy
Patna: Agriculture minister Narendra Singh on Sunday said in view of the deficient rainfall in the state, the government has decided to give Rs 25 per litre as diesel subsidy to farmers. He also said rural feeders would get 12 hours of power supply instead of eight hours to helps the farmers in irrigation.
