Criminal caught near prison
Ara: Dhiraj Mishra, a criminal of the Ara-Buxar region was arrested on Saturday evening. Sources said Mishra was involved in several cases of extorting money from businessmen. He was also a named accused in several cases of murder and abductions in Bhojpur and Buxar.
Udwant Nagar station house officer Mithilesh Kumar arrested Mishra near Ara jail when he had gone to meet some inmates. Kumar said the police were hoping to crack several cases on the basis of information provided by Mishra during interrogation.
Tiller complaint
Motihari: Lallan Shukla, a farmer of Baswariya village in East Champaran district has criticised the state government’s decision of not sending its farmers to Gujarat for taking part in a tillers’ conference. Shukla claimed that farmers like him have been made victims for political gains and they had been denied an opportunity to learn.
Rajak plea
Patna: Food and consumer protection minister and senior JD(U) leader Shyam Rajak on Sunday urged party workers to face BJP’s challenge by indulging in rumour mongering. Speaking at a Dal workers’ meet organised in Phulwarisharif, he said the BJP was hand-in-glove with RJD and both the parties wanted to disturb social harmony in the state. He also urged the workers to use the Right to Service Act effectively.
Condolence
Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday mourned the death of Rashtriya Lok Samta Party vice-president Lutfur Rehman. In his condolence message, Nitish said Rehman contributed in a big way in social and political fields and his demise had rendered an irreparable loss.
Student killed
Purnea (PTI): A Class IX student was reportedly beaten to death on Sunday at Balutola locality under the jurisdiction of Kasba police station. One Bhim Mahto and his men assaulted Roshan Kumar, suspecting him to be a thief, while he was returning home from school. Roshan was rushed to Sadar hospital where he was declared brought dead. Police said they were investigating the matter.
Boys drown
Begusarai (PTI): Two boys drowned on Sunday in the Ganga. The incident occurred at Karbala Ghat as four children, two boys and two girls, fell into the water while a taking bath in the river, police said. While two boys, identified as Mohammed Sanalul (16) and Mohammed Azad (10) drowned. The girls were rescued. The bodies have been recovered and sent for post-mortem, the police said.
