Manipur Maoist leader in net

Patna: A Maoist leader from Manipur, identified as Sairen Ibungo, alias Bobo, was arrested from Jakkanpur under the jurisdiction of Jakkanpur police station in Patna on Saturday evening.

Patna senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaj said the 31-year-old Maoist had fled from Lamsang (Manipur) and was staying in the city following a police operation in which a rebel was killed on August 29. Camouflage combat shirts, trousers and shoes and Naxalite literature were seized from his possession, he added.

Cop check on truck load

Patna: The state’s first check post to monitor the plying of overloaded vehicles on the Mahatma Gandhi Setu started operations near Hajipur toll plaza on the northern end of the bridge in Vaishali district on Sunday. Transport minister Brishen Patel inaugurated the check post. Two other such check posts would be set up shortly near Zero Mile in Begusarai and Naugachhia in Bhagalpur districts.

I-T details

Patna: The Sasaram Town Police have sought details of income tax returns filed by Mohammad Kalam Ansari, whose residential premises were searched by a joint team of the economic offences unit and Rohtas police on Friday. Ansari and his associate Navlesh Kumar Singh are accused of funding the Maoists.

Gang busted

Patna: Police busted a gang involved in the killing of drivers after hijacking trucks laden with building construction material. Patna senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaj said four members of the gang, identified as Dhora Rai, Shambhu Yadav, Naresh Sah and Rajesh Prasad, were arrested and looted materials seized. The criminals confessed to their involvement in hijacking a tractor carrying iron rods from Abdullahchak under the jurisdiction of Agamkuan police station.

Fine slap

Patna: Around nine designated officials of Patna district have been asked to pay fine for failing to deliver services, covered under the Right to Public Service Act, in stipulated time.

Health camp

Patna: Non-government organisation Sanyam Foundation organised a health camp on Sunday in which more than 100 people were examined by homeopathy doctors. Medicines were also distributed among the people who attended the camp.

Competitions

Patna: Several competitions were organised for women and children at a function organised by Bihar Pradeshik Agrawal Mahila Sammelan to mark the birth anniversary of Maharaja Agrasen. Office bearers of the Sammelan distributed prizes among the winners of the competitions.

DM order

Patna: Patna district magistrate (DM) N. Saravana Kumar on Sunday directed the officials concerned to send a recommendation for taking disciplinary action against circle officers of Maner and Athmalgola for failing to take necessary steps for distribution of relief material among the flood-hit people. The district magistrate also issued a directive for completing the relief distribution work by October 20.

Highway mishap

Lakhisarai (PTI): Two persons were killed and three others were injured on Sunday when a van ran over them on NH-80. Two persons, identified as Sunil Ram (39) and Lakhan Yadav (30), were killed.
