HC reserves order on Lalu bail plea

Ranchi (PTI): Jharkhand High Court on Wednesday reserved its order on the bail petition moved by RJD chief Lalu Prasad, serving a five-year sentence after being convicted in a fodder scam case.        

After conclusion of the hearing by the CBI counsel against Lalu's bail plea, the bench of Justice R.R. Prasad reserved the order for Thursday.

The court had on October 25 granted provisional bail to former Bihar chief minister Jagannath Mishra. Lalu, Mishra and 43 others were on September 30 convicted by the special CBI court judge, Pravas Kumar Singh, in the fodder case involving fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 37.7 crore from the Chaibasa Treasury. The CBI court had pronounced varying prison terms to the convicted on October 3. Lalu and others have also moved the high court against the verdict.

Sushil jibe

Patna: BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi on Wednesday accused chief minister Nitish Kumar of not speaking a single word about terror attacks at the JD(U) convention in Rajgir. He also criticised Nitish and his party for not paying homage to the souls of blast victims during the Rajgir programme.

Bank director

Patna: Congress leader Rajkishore Singh has been nominated as a director of Bihar Gramin Bank. Singh on Wednesday said his nomination by the Union finance ministry has been done for a period of two years.

Exhibition

Patna:The state government would organise Saras Mela at Gandhi Maidan from November 29 to December 12. The fair would showcase products made by rural people individually or through self-help groups.

Panchayat pat

Patna: Union panchayati raj minister V.K. Chandra Dev on Wednesday praised the steps been taken by the state government to strengthen the panchayati raj institutions at a workshop.

Hair salon

Patna: A hair styling fest by Head Turners, Hair Spa and Beauty Salon situated at West Boring Canal Road would conclude on November 1. Celebrity hair stylists Anil and Mehboob, trained from Vidal Sassoon, London, would style the clients, a Head Turner press note on Wednesday said.

Procession

Patna: The BJP will take out an Asthi Kalash Yatra of six persons killed in the blasts during Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi's Hunkar Rally on Sunday. The yatra will start on Thursday from the villages of the deceased and reach Patna on November 5.

Memorandum

Patna: A delegation led by state BJP president Mangal Pandey on Wednesday met Governor D.Y. Patil and submitted a memorandum listing out security lapses by state police at the Hunkar Rally on Sunday. The delegation, though the memorandum, blamed chief minister Nitish Kumar government for the lapses.

Book release

Patna: Governor D.Y. Patil on Wednesday released a book written by Sanskrit scholar Satish Nandan Jha. The book titled Acharya Satish Nandan Jha Abhinandan Granth consists of articles written by eminent writers in Sanskrit, Hindi, English and Maithili.

Convocation

Bhagalpur: Bihar Agriculture University (BAU), Sabour, has started preparations on a war footing for its first convocation ceremony on November 30. BAU senior public relations officer Rajesh Kumar said Governor D.Y. Patil would be the chief guest at the event. “The governor has given his consent to grace the ceremony. We are trying to approach other VIPs and dignitaries,” he said. Passouts, too, would be invited.
