Rebel held for attack on cops
Gaya (PTI): A self-styled zonal commander of a Maoist outfit, Nepali Yadav, was arrested from Calcutta and forwarded to jail here on Wednesday. He was involved in the recent attack on a Special Auxiliary Police camp in Aurangabad in which three jawans were killed and arms and ammunition looted.
Additional superintendent of police Shambhu Prasad said Yadav, who is a self-styled zonal commander of the Magadh and central zones in Bihar, was produced in the court of chief judicial magistrate in Gaya, who remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody.
Yadav had a key role in the recent attack on a Special Auxiliary Police camp at Goh in which three jawans were killed and huge quantity of arms and ammunition looted by the Maoists. The Calcutta police, however, remained in the dark about the entire operation and said they had no idea about the Gaya police team's operation in the city. “We are not aware of any such operation in the city,” said a senior official of Special Task Force in Calcutta.
Food target
Patna: Mangla Rai, adviser to chief minister Nitish Kumar, on Wednesday underlined the importance of private investment for achieving the goal of providing food to all. He was speaking in a seminar organised by Bihar State Productivity Council. Several experts and academics took part in the seminar.
Snake scare
Patna: Six snakes were found in the office and residence of deputy superintendent of police (Fatuha) Sunita Kumari on Wednesday. Sources said around 10.30am, one of the cops opened her office and found two snakes hidden in the files. The cops then called a snake charmer, who then found four more snakes in the residence of the police officer after an attempt of an-hour-and-half.
Petition
Gopalganj: One Chandrika Sharma of Rajokhar Manopur village under the jurisdiction of Gopalganj town police station submitted a petition on Wednesday to the district magistrate pleading that the body of his son, Harikesh Sharma (20), is brought to his village. Harikesh, who used to work as a labourer in a cement factory in Nigeria, died of illness on October 14. Sharma, who was informed about the incident on Wednesday, demanded appropriate compensation from the company. According to Chandrika, around 200 Indian laborers working in Nigeria, many of whom are from Gopalganj and Siwan districts, have been made hostages. He said they were not being paid and taken care of. He demanded those labourers must be salvaged and sent back to India. District magistrate Krishna Mohan said he was unaware of any such incident as the offices were closed.
Body found
Gopalganj: The body of Sohila (6), daughter of Mohan Pasi of Nawada village under the jurisdiction of Barauli police station was found from a ditch in the an orchard on Wednesday. She had gone to see the fair on October 14 and did not return. Her parents had lodged an informatory about the missing of their daughter. Police suspect that Sohila was strangulated to death. Her parents lodged an FIR against unknown persons. The body was sent for postmortem.
Jail term
New Delhi (PTI): A Delhi court has sentenced Pramod, a resident of Madhubani, to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for allegedly raping a maid in a house where he was working as a domestic help.The court also imposed a fine of Rs 3,000 on 23-year-old Pramod after holding him guilty of raping the maid in a house in October 2010 and observed that the offence committed by him was grave. “It has been proved beyond reasonable doubt that the convict (Pramod) committed rape upon prosecutrix who was working as a maid servant in the same house where he was also employed as servant. The offence proved to have been committed by convict is certainly grave in nature,” additional sessions judge Kaveri Baweja said.
